About
I did my undergraduate and MA at Syracuse University and then started my PhD in 1994 at U of Illinois. After spending 3 years on it, TA'ing and on a FLAS-Wolof fellowship, I did a year of extra course work under Drs. Scheub, Makward, Kunene, Hunter at U Wisconsin - Madison. I left the academic world in 1999 only to return in 2003 after spending 4 years in the corporate world (at America Online). I joined the Term faculty force at GMU in Aug 03. Since then, I have completed my dissertation, presented and published a couple of papers, led 8 study abroad trips (Paris, Monaco, Rabat, Guadeloupe, Senegal), taught all levels of French including in my research specialty (Francophone African Literature), helped redesign our curriculum, all while serving as the Coordinator of Basic French Language Program (Beginner and Intermediate Levels). I'm looking forward to producing a Wolof language textbook (with ancillaries) and am currently looking for funding to do so. I have published 2 chapters of my dissertation (Genre 1998, Emerging Perspectives on Ken Bugul, 2009) and am sending out additional chapters.
